The Applebrown Jazz Ensemble
Formed in the summer of 2007, The Applebrown Jazz Ensemble
materialized out of a unique musical vision and a desire to take part in
the progressive and creative music scene in San Diego. One of the many
andspirations of the outfit was to energize a musical spirit of excitement,
diversity and spontaneity through imaginative composition and eclectic live performances.

The Applebrown Jazz Ensemble’s music spans a wide range of moods from the formal and subdued to unbridled displays of virtuosity melding irreconcilable forces of cultured consonance with cathartic chaos. The multifarious Applebrown Jazz Ensemble traverses the repertoire by alluding to the many sentiments and emotions inherent in the human experience and imbuing each piece with a unique emotional sense.

A diverse array of musical styles and artists has had a profound influence on the compositions and overall sound of Applebrown. Not only can The Applebrown Jazz Ensemble’s music be compared to the music of Charles Mingus, Exploding Star Orchestra, Frank Zappa, George Russell, and Raymond Scott, but the following categories may also be used to describe the music of The Applebrown Jazz Ensemble: be-bop, punk jazz, dixieland, hard-bop, free jazz, progressive jazz, experimental, funk, circus, and rock.

The Cool Soul Trio
Inspired by the groove dominated jazz-funk music of the 1960’s and 70’s, The Cool Soul Trio specializes in music that was popularized by artists like Grant Green, Reuben Wilson, and Jimmy Smith. With it’s mellow grooves and modest instrumentation (guitar, bass, and drums), The Cool Soul Trio offers a light, yet engaging musical sound.
The style in which The Cool Soul Trio plays can be categorized as jazz-funk, soul-jazz, and/or groove-jazz.

Founded by Gabriel Sundy in 2004, Mutantspaceboy was created
with the objective of integrating contrasting musical styles with
different types of composition combined with distinct methods of
improvisation to create an eclectic amalgamation of dynamic, sentimental, and sinister music.

With the release of Mutantspaceboy's debut album in 2009, the group was reformatted and continued its exploration of instrumental music. In addition to free and structured improvisation, the repertoire expanded to include compositions that placed a greater emphasis on structure.

Though many musical styles may be used to describe Mutantspaceboy's music (e.g. jazz-rock fusion, post-rock, experimental, etc.), at its core are elements rooted in jazz and rock traditions fused with propensities that are characteristic of the avant-garde. Mutantspaceboy is currently on hiatus from performing but still has plans to record in the near future.
