Nexus/Nexus 4000
Founded by Composer/Multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Sundy, Nexus and Nexus 4000 are San Diego based bands that performs music that is comparable to the progressive rock and jazz-fusion of the 1960’s and 70’s. The music can be described as a synthesis of psychedelic and prog rock sensibilities with an underlying foundation of improvisation and harmony that is characteristic of music from modern jazz traditions. The music Sundy has composed and arranged for Nexus was inspired by artists and bands like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Nucleus, Frank Zappa, John Abercrombie, Gong, Yes, and Soft Machine.

The Gabriel Sundy Jazz Trio
Combining his love for jazz music with an infectious affection for the wealth of music within the jazz, rock, and pop worlds, Gabriel Sundy leads the chord-less sax driven jazz trio with Mackenzie Leighton on bass and Matthew Smith on drums. The group’s repertoire includes jazz standards, be-bop and post-bop tunes, cinematic themes, pop and rock hits played in jazz styles, as well as original compositions from members of the group. Though primarily a baritone saxophonist, Sundy can predominately be heard playing tenor saxophone with the trio.

Founded by Gabriel Sundy in 2004, Mutantspaceboy was created
with the objective of integrating contrasting musical styles with
different types of composition combined with distinct methods of
improvisation to create an eclectic amalgamation of dynamic, sentimental, and sinister music.

With the release of Mutantspaceboy's debut album in 2009, the group was reformatted and continued its exploration of instrumental music. In addition to free and structured improvisation, the repertoire expanded to include compositions that placed a greater emphasis on structure.

Though many musical styles may be used to describe Mutantspaceboy's music (e.g. jazz-rock fusion, post-rock, experimental, etc.), at its core are elements rooted in jazz and rock traditions fused with propensities that are characteristic of the avant-garde.
